FAQs for Midlem
Can pouches have a zip and window?
You can choose: zips, tear notches, hang holes and windows, in a matt, gloss or soft-touch finish.
Who enforces food labelling in the Scottish Borders?
Food labelling is enforced by the local council’s trading standards or environmental health team for the Scottish Borders, overseen nationally by Food Standards Scotland. If you want assured advice, consider a Primary Authority partnership with a council.
Do you send samples?
Yes, we can. Ask for a sample pack and we’ll send it to you in Midlem, showing our materials and finishes.
What if I sell in Northern Ireland too?
We check against both sets of rules. Northern Ireland follows EU food law, so claims must come from the EU register and the address must be in NI or the EU. Let us know where your products go and we’ll check the label for each market.
What’s the minimum order for printed pouches?
It depends on the pouch size and finish, and we quote them per design. For small quantities, label stock pouches instead.
Printed pouches for Midlem brands
Printed pouches look more premium than a labelled stock pouch and save the time of applying labels. Digital printing means short runs per design, so you don’t need to commit to tens of thousands of units. Not ready for a printed run? Start with labels on stock pouches and switch later. Zips, windows, tear notches and hang holes can all be added, in a matt, gloss or soft-touch finish.

Rules in Scotland
Supplement labelling rules for Midlem
Supplements sold from Midlem must meet the Food Supplements (Scotland) Regulations 2003, overseen by Food Standards Scotland. In the Scottish Borders, food labelling is enforced by the local authority’s trading standards or environmental health officers for the Scottish Borders.
Scotland has its own food regulator, but the supplement labelling rules match England and Wales, so one label works across Great Britain.
A good first step is our label requirements checklist, then check your health claims, %NRV figures and nutrient guides.
