Rules in Scotland
Labelling law for supplements from Gorthleck
Supplements sold from Gorthleck must meet the Food Supplements (Scotland) Regulations 2003, overseen by Food Standards Scotland. In Highland, food labelling is enforced by the local authority’s trading standards or environmental health officers for Highland.
Scotland has its own food regulator, but the supplement labelling rules match England and Wales, so one label works across Great Britain.
A good first step is our label requirements checklist, and then check your health claims, %NRV figures and nutrient guides.

Printed pouches look more premium than a labelled stock pouch and save the time of applying labels. Digital printing means short runs per design, so you don’t need to commit to tens of thousands of units. Still testing a product? Begin with labels on stock pouches and switch later. Common questions in Gorthleck
Can I see a sample before ordering?
Yes, we can. Request a sample pack and we’ll post it to your Gorthleck address, showing our materials and finishes before you order.
Do you offer recyclable pouches?
Mono-material pouches are available, designed for recycling where collection exists. Check the specification before you make any claim on pack.
How long do printed pouches take to reach Gorthleck?
Pouches take longer to make than labels: your quote includes the lead time, then delivery to Gorthleck is usually two working days after dispatch.
Do you check labels for Northern Ireland as well as Great Britain?
We can check for both. EU food law applies in Northern Ireland, so health claims must be on the EU register and the address must be in NI or the EU. Let us know where your products go and we’ll cover both.
Who checks supplement labels in Highland?
Food labelling is enforced by the local council’s trading standards or environmental health team for Highland, overseen nationally by Food Standards Scotland. For advice councils must respect, consider a Primary Authority partnership with a council.
