Supplement label checks for Aith, Shetland Islands
Send us your label and we’ll tell you, in writing, what must change before it goes on sale from Aith.
What the check covers for Aith brands
Send your artwork or draft copy. We review it against the Food Supplements (Scotland) Regulations 2003, the food information rules and the GB nutrition and health claims register, and send back a written report with every point marked as fine, advised or must fix. It’s a practical review, not legal advice. If you need advice councils must respect, a Primary Authority partnership is the next step. We check labels designed and printed anywhere, not just our own.

Rules in Scotland
Labelling law for supplements from Aith
Supplements sold from Aith must meet the Food Supplements (Scotland) Regulations 2003, regulated nationally by Food Standards Scotland. At a local level, food labelling is enforced by council trading standards or environmental health staff for the Shetland Islands.
Scotland has its own food regulator, but the supplement labelling rules match England and Wales, so one label works across Great Britain.
A good first step is our label requirements checklist, and then check your health claims, %NRV figures and nutrient guides.

Questions from Aith brands
Can you check a label that’s already printed?
We’ll still check them. If we find problems, we’ll tell you which are urgent and which can wait for your next print run.
Do you check labels for Northern Ireland as well as Great Britain?
We can check for both. EU food law applies in Northern Ireland, so claims must come from the EU register and the address must be in NI or the EU. Tell us where you sell and we’ll check the label for each market.
Is this the same as Trading Standards advice?
No. Trading Standards for the Shetland Islands enforce labelling law; we give a practical second opinion before you print.
How long does a check take?
We confirm the turnaround when you send your label, and urgent checks can often be done quickly.
Who checks supplement labels in the Shetland Islands?
Supplement labelling is enforced by the local council’s trading standards or environmental health team for the Shetland Islands, overseen nationally by Food Standards Scotland. If you want assured advice, you can set up a Primary Authority partnership with a council.
