Rules in Wales

Supplement labelling rules for Bargoed

Supplements sold from Bargoed must meet the Food Supplements (Wales) Regulations 2003, under the oversight of the Food Standards Agency in Wales. Locally, food labelling is enforced by the local authority’s trading standards or environmental health officers for Caerphilly.

Welsh-language text is optional on supplement labels. If you add it, both languages must be accurate and the mandatory text must still meet the 1.2 mm minimum x-height.

A good first step is our label requirements checklist, then review your health claims, %NRV figures and nutrient guides.

What the check covers for Bargoed brands

Send your artwork or draft copy. We review it against the Food Supplements (Wales) Regulations 2003, the food information rules and the GB nutrition and health claims register, and send back a written report with every point marked as fine, advised or must fix. This is a practical check rather than legal advice. If you need advice councils must respect, a Primary Authority partnership is the next step. We check labels designed and printed anywhere, including ones from other printers.

Questions from Bargoed brands

What if I sell in Northern Ireland too?

We can check for both. Northern Ireland follows EU food law, so claims must come from the EU register and the address must work for that market. Tell us where you sell and we’ll cover both.

What does the report look like?

A written, point-by-point report, with each item marked fine, advised or must fix, plus suggested wording.

How quickly do you review a label?

We confirm the turnaround when you send your label.

Can you check a label that’s already printed?

We’ll still check them. If we find problems, we’ll tell you which are urgent and which can wait for your next print run.

Do you only work with Bargoed businesses?

No. We work online and deliver across the UK, so it makes no difference where you’re based. Bargoed orders go by tracked delivery to CF81.
