Supplement label compliance check in March

Send us your label and we’ll tell you, in writing, what must change before it goes on sale from March.

Rules in England

Labelling law for supplements from March

Any food supplement sold from March must meet the Food Supplements (England) Regulations 2003, under the oversight of the Food Standards Agency. At a local level, food labelling is enforced by council trading standards or environmental health staff.

You can sell the same label in Scotland and Wales, since the supplement rules are the same across Great Britain.

Start with our label requirements checklist, and then check your health claims, %NRV figures and nutrient guides.

Supplement label with corrections noted, March

What the check covers for March brands

We read your label line by line: the supplement statements, the nutrient table and %NRV maths, ingredients and allergens, claims, text size and traceability. You get a written report you can act on or pass to your designer. This is a practical check rather than legal advice. If you need advice councils must respect, a Primary Authority partnership is the next step. The check covers any label, whoever designed or printed it, including ones from other printers.

Common questions in March

Is your check the same as a Trading Standards check?

No. Trading Standards for Cambridgeshire enforce the law; we give a practical second opinion before you print.

Which labelling rules apply to supplements sold from March?

March is in England, so the Food Supplements (England) Regulations 2003 apply, together with the general food information rules. Health claims must come from the GB nutrition and health claims register.

How long does a check take?

We’ll tell you the turnaround when you send your artwork.

Do you check labels for Northern Ireland as well as Great Britain?

We check against both sets of rules. EU food law applies in Northern Ireland, so health claims must be on the EU register and the address must be in NI or the EU. Tell us where you sell and we’ll cover both.

Do you only work with March businesses?

No. We work online and deliver across the UK, so your location doesn’t matter. March orders go by tracked courier to PE15.
