Rules in Scotland
Label rules that apply in Windygates
Supplements sold from Windygates must meet the Food Supplements (Scotland) Regulations 2003, regulated nationally by Food Standards Scotland. Locally, food labelling is enforced by the local authority’s trading standards or environmental health officers.
Scotland has its own food regulator, but the supplement labelling rules match England and Wales, so one label works across Great Britain.
Begin with our label requirements checklist, then check your health claims, %NRV figures and nutrient guides.

Questions from Windygates brands
How long does delivery to Windygates take?
Usually the next working day after dispatch. Printing takes 3 to 5 working days from proof approval, so most Windygates orders arrive within about a week of sending artwork.
What’s the smallest run you print?
No fixed minimum. Many new brands start with 250 labels, and you can combine several designs in one order.
Who enforces food labelling in Fife?
Supplement labelling is enforced by the local council’s trading standards or environmental health team for Fife, overseen nationally by Food Standards Scotland. For advice councils must respect, you can set up a Primary Authority partnership with a council.
Do you check labels for Northern Ireland as well as Great Britain?
We check against both sets of rules. Northern Ireland follows EU food law, so health claims must be on the EU register and the address must work for that market. Let us know where your products go and we’ll cover both.
Do you add batch numbers and best-before dates?
Yes. Our digital press adds a different batch and date to each run, so there’s no need for a coder on short runs.
