Common questions in Blackdog
Who checks supplement labels in Aberdeen?
Food labelling is enforced by the local council’s trading standards or environmental health team for Aberdeen, overseen nationally by Food Standards Scotland. If you want assured advice, you can set up a Primary Authority partnership with a council.
Do you add batch numbers and best-before dates?
Yes. Variable data printing adds a batch code and date to each run, so you don’t need a separate coder for short runs.
Which material is best for a protein tub?
Laminated white PP. It copes with powder, moisture and handling, and doesn’t lift on a curved tub.
When will my labels arrive in Blackdog?
Usually the next working day after dispatch. We print in 3 to 5 working days from proof approval, so most Blackdog orders arrive within about a week of sending artwork.
Do you send samples?
Yes. Request a sample pack and we’ll send it to you in Blackdog, so you can feel the materials and finishes before you order.
Rules in Scotland
Supplement labelling rules for Blackdog
Products you sell from Blackdog must meet the Food Supplements (Scotland) Regulations 2003, overseen by Food Standards Scotland. At a local level, food labelling is enforced by the local authority’s trading standards or environmental health officers.
Scotland has its own food regulator, but the supplement labelling rules match England and Wales, so one label works across Great Britain.
A good first step is our label requirements checklist, then check your health claims, %NRV figures and nutrient guides.
