Sports nutrition labels

Durable labels for protein, pre-workout and creatine, with the extra rules for caffeine and performance claims checked.

Sports nutrition labels for supplement brands

Caffeine statements

If caffeine is added to a food supplement for its physiological effect, the label must say “Contains caffeine. Not recommended for children or pregnant women” and give the amount of caffeine per recommended daily dose. Pre-workouts are where we see this missed most.

Creatine and other performance claims

Creatine has authorised claims, such as “Creatine increases physical performance in successive bursts of short-term, high intensity exercise”, but only with a daily intake of 3 g. Many other sports ingredients have no authorised claims at all, so words like “boosts strength” or “burns fat” can’t be used.

One label per flavour

Digital printing lets you print six flavours in one order without six setups. Ingredients, allergens and nutrition change between flavours, so each gets its own compliance check.

Questions

Is protein powder a food supplement?

It can be either. Sold as a general food it needs the standard nutrition table; labelled as a food supplement it needs the supplement statements. Pick one and label to match.

Can I put Informed Sport or other logos on the label?

Only if your product is certified and you follow the scheme’s artwork rules.
